Our Mission

Our mission is to fulfill the Mitzvah of Mipnei Seiva Takum: You shall rise and show respect to the aged.

Our care philosophy is rooted in dignity and community. Instead of solely focusing on managing symptoms, we address the whole person. We strive to meet their physical, emotional and social needs, customizing our efforts around each individual and making sure they have a continued sense of purpose.

Along the way, we build friendships and connect with our residents. We aspire to be more than Omaha’s premier provider of high-caliber long- and short-term nursing care. We’re thoughtful, vigilant and cognizant of others and what they need to thrive.

A Legacy Rooted in Service

Our history starts in 1916, when Omaha’s first residential care facility for the aged opened its doors — it had five residents. By 1946, it was replaced by the Dr. Philip Sher Home for the Aged, which welcomed 35 residents. In 1982, we finalized our current name: the Rose Blumkin Jewish Home, named after the late philanthropist and Omaha icon who made our expansion possible in 1987.

We invite you to be part of our family.

What’s the difference between a nursing home vs. assisted living vs. skilled nursing facilities?

People often use these terms interchangeably, but there are big differences. Assisted living focuses on providing a supportive environment for individuals who just need help with activities of daily living. They don’t usually offer a 24/7 standard of nursing care. Skilled nursing facilities, also called nursing homes, provide a higher level of care, with more medical supervision and rehabilitation services like physical therapy or speech therapy. We’re proud of our exceptional skilled nursing staff and care staff at Rose Blumkin Jewish Home, who allow us to offer the best of both worlds to our residents.
