Hospice Care Frequently Asked Questions

What is hospice care?

Hospice care is specialized, compassionate medical care for people facing a life-limiting illness. It focuses on relieving pain, managing symptoms, and supporting emotional and spiritual well-being, allowing the person to live fully and comfortably in their final days.

When is the right time for hospice?

Physicians and healthcare providers may determine that hospice is the best course of action when someone has six months or less to live, should the illness run its expected course, but the patient or their advocate has the final say.

Will my family be involved in hospice decisions?

Absolutely. Families remain an essential part of the decision-making process, and we encourage open conversations and shared planning to ensure care aligns with your loved one’s values and wishes. We also strongly encourage families to take advantage of bereavement support during a difficult time.

Will my loved one be moved for hospice care?

No. At RBJH, hospice services are provided right in the resident’s room, eliminating the stress of a move and allowing care to continue in a familiar and supportive environment.
