Rehabilitation that restores. Wellness that lasts.

Recovering from illness, injury or surgery can be quite a challenge. Often, it tests our physical, mental and emotional strength. The rehabilitation professionals at Rose Blumkin Jewish Home thoroughly understand these challenges and offer insight and support every step of the way.

Rehabilitation Frequently Asked Questions

What is physical therapy?

Physical therapy helps restore strength and mobility after neuromuscular or skeletal injuries. Your care plan at Rose Blumkin Jewish Home provides individualized therapeutic treatment and may include:

  • Training in mobility, gait stability, posture and positioning
  • Exercise programs to increase muscle function, coordination and endurance
  • Joint and soft tissue mobilization to increase range of motion
  • Wound care
  • Pain management

What is occupational therapy?

Like physical therapy, occupational therapy restores strength and mobility, but OT focuses on helping people adapt to their social and physical environments with practical exercises that strengthen coordination and improve range of motion. Specific treatment plans may include:

  • Education and training in areas such as dressing, bathing, eating and grooming
  • Activities for memory, orientation and cognitive integration
  • Adaptive techniques or equipment to overcome physical disabilities
  • Exercises to maintain normal joint movement to reduce the effects of arthritis or other conditions

What is speech therapy?

Our speech-language pathologists address communication and swallowing issues, especially after conditions like stroke, head injuries, dementia or neurological diseases. Treatment plans are designed for individual needs such as:

  • Recovery of speech, language and memory skills
  • Verbal and nonverbal communication, including programs for the hearing-impaired
  • Oral muscle strength and functioning required for speaking and swallowing
  • Appropriate diet recommendations

Will Medicare cover my short-term rehabilitation?

In many cases, short-term skilled nursing and rehabilitation are a covered benefit under traditional Medicare A plans as well as Medicare Insurance replacement plans, after an inpatient hospitalization. Coverage depends on meeting Medicare eligibility requirements, as well as individual plan benefits. Our Admissions team is happy to help you understand what may be covered.

How soon after surgery can I stay at the Rose Blumkin Jewish Home?

We work closely with your medical team to ensure a smooth transition. In some cases, rehab can begin almost immediately following discharge, depending on your physician’s recommendation.

Do you offer outpatient rehabilitation for non-residents?

Yes. Our therapy team serves community members who need outpatient rehab for orthopedic issues, joint replacements, stroke recovery, and more.
